Miguel Ángel Medina Monsalves

Oboe and English Horn

Currently, he is an oboe and solfege teacher at the “Manuel Navarrete León” Music School in Alcalá del Guadaira, Escuela Municipal de Música de Pilas and oboe teacher at the Liceo de Moguer school, as well as a member of the “Banda de Ateneo Iberoamericano de Sevilla” .

During his stay in Guadalajara between the years 2015 and 2016 he has been guest principal oboe and English horn in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jalisco, principal oboe in the Jalisco Chamber Orchestra, where they premiered works by Jalisco composer Juan Pablo Contreras and principal oboe in the Zapopan Chamber Orchestra. In addition, they played several recitals throughout the Mexican national territory, standing out in the Cathedral and the Guadalupe Sanctuary in Guadalajara and in the Morelia Organ Festival and collaborated with several orchestras such as the Nayar Chamber Orchestra and the University of Guanajuato Orchestra among others.

He also played as the first Oboe in The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the radio orchestra in Israel and as the first Oboe in the Netania Kibbutz Orchestra in 2015.

He did his second Master and Praktikum in Oboe, at the Buchmann-Metha School of Music in Tel Aviv (Academy of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra), under the tutelage of Dudu Carmel, soloist of The Israel Philharmonic, where he is a member of the BMSOM Orchestra. He performs with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Orchestra de Jerusalem, Jerusalem Academy Orchestra, Jerusalem Barroc Orchestra, Haifa-Galilea Chamber Orchestra, Revolution Orchestra, among others… He was also invited to play at the Eilat Chamber Music Festival, where he played several concerts as Principal with the “Igor Lerman” Chamber Orchestra (Russia). He has also given several recitals in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

In 2011 he started his Master’s degree at the “Musikhochschule Karlsruhe” in Karlsruhe, Germany. Under the tutelage of Thomas Indermühle. During this period, he was a member of the “Betlehem” Trio, collaborated with numerous German orchestras and performed a large number of recitals throughout Southern Germany. He taught oboe at the music school in Bischweier (Karlsruhe).

In 2007, he finished the Middle Grade, receiving the End of Grade Award at the “Conservatorio Fco. Guerrero”. He enters the “Conservatorio Superior de las Islas Baleares” under the guidance of Thomas Indermühle, Pilar Fontalba and Javier Arnal.

Here he is part of a wind quintet, “Quin-Quintet” with which he will give concerts in many cities on the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. He is a member of and collaborates with bands from the island of Mallorca and Valencia: The “Sociedad Instructiva Son Rapinya”, Federación Balear de Bandas de Música, Banda Municipal de Manacor, Unión Musical de Planes, etc.He is a member of “La Camerata de Alaró” with which he premieres some works in Spain, also of the “Trio Zelenka” with which he will give concerts of Baroque Music. He premieres “Cardiophonie” by Heinz Holliger in Spain. He gives recitals both in Spain and in Germany. He is also a teacher in several music schools: Municipal Schools of Manacor, Felanix, Selva and Alaró and he collaborates in the creation of a course for oboe and bassoon, “Curso Internacional de Planes” and he was a member of “S’ensemble Illes Balears” of Contemporary Music.

He began his solfeggio studies at the age of 7 under the tutelage of Don Vicente Micó Álvarez. At the age of 12 he began his elementary studies at the “Elementary Conservatory of Triana” under the tutelage of David Herrera and Professor Jacobo Díaz. During these years Miguel Ángel joined the “Sociedad Filarmónica de Pilas” and began his first steps in the wide world of Chamber Music and Orchestral Music, collaborating with the “Banda Municipal de Sevilla” among others, and with several Youth Orchestras such as the Orquesta Adagio Sierra, Orquesta Sinfónica del Aljarafe, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Comunidad Andaluza, among others. He was a member of “La Academia de Estudios Orquestales Barenboim-Said” with Pr. Gregor Witt and was also a member of the Contemporary Music Ensemble Musixbilia where he gave concerts throughout the peninsula.

He has received Masterclasses with Oboists of the stature of: Jaime González, Thomas Indermüle, Pilar Fontalba, Christian Schmitt, Jacobo Díaz, Dudu Carmel, Sara Roper, Sara Bishop, Javier Arnal, Joan Rodríguez, Jacques Tys, Spiros Kontos, Bruno Lucas, etc. and has been directed by directors of the category of Enrique García Asencio, Mario Miragliotta, Alicja Mounk, Zubin Metha, François-Xavier Roth, Marco Parisotto, Adrien Perruchon, Garry Walker, among others.
