10 curiosities about oboes, oboists and reeds.

  1. Despite having much earlier origins, the oboe joins the orchestra between 1650 and 1660 under the reign of Louis XIV in France.

 

  1. Before beginning a concert, the musicians of the orchestra take the oboe “A” as a tuning reference.

 

  1. The oboe is traditionally made with black African wood. With granadilla and also with ebony.
